film review warm up for It's Kind of A Funny Story

This is a novel I have never read.

The dudes at Focus Features picked up the novel and produced a movie by the same name.  This company has made some of my all time favorite movies. Lost in Translation, Eternal Sunshine, etc.

Half Nelson is one of the best movies I have ever seen, ever.  Everything about this movie is completely superb, and the husband and wife directing duo who made this pretty much pitch-perfect film are also the directors behind the new "It's Kindof A Funny Story".  I can't tell you how much I loved this movie, and how it easily catapulted Ryan Gosling into the ranks of GENIUS.  He has an effortless acting technique that is more cool and suave than any other actor you will see working right now.  He didn't go unnoticed either-the Academy gave him an Oscar nom for this little picture and although he didn't win it he nabbed some more major credibility as one of the best of his (and my) generation.

And credibility is exactly what Zack Galifinakis is on his way towards getting, already a favorite among my peers, but yet to be taken seriously as a dramatic actor.  He has been the bearded tour-de-force behind many indie flicks as well as big budget blockbuster comedies, but something about this new role is leaving me feeling like this is the one that gets him the recognition he deserves.  He is obviously gifted with comedy, inventing new styles of quirkiness that makes us feel like we are apart of something novel. Watching him feels like I am embarking on a new wave of comedy and cinema.  He's like some kind of nuanced clown.  One liners and physical bits that are so simple, and yet so dark and somehow hidden from our eyes.  And lately, he has been waking me up to what is new and exciting about art and culture.  He is starring in the new effort by the Half Nelson directing duo.

It's Kindof a Funny Story- I kindof have a lot of expectations.

so excited.  oh my god.

a little more eye candy.....
